Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Shenanigans Cycling! Founded in 2019  Shenanigans Jr. Cycling Club is a 501c3 youth organization dedicated to using cycling, racing, and most of all outdoor adventure to provide an environment that helps kids become the best version of themselves. Our programs foster resilience, commitment, and community. Shenanigans operates two distinct programs to further that mission, Adventure Bike Club and Adventure Race Team. All of our adult volunteers go through a background check and training specific to the program they are involved in.

Adventure Bike Club is a non-competitive program for kids age 5-12 focused on getting kids outside, having a great time doing a weekly adventure ride with kids their own age. What they don’t realize is while they are just having fun they are developing qualities like resilience, self reliance, and confidence. ABC is a weekly program that takes place on Wednesday evening for 8 weeks in June, July and August. Volunteers for ABC must complete a background check and online training, both provided to us by the 906 Adventure Team, and in person training. ABC volunteers who ride with the kids do not need advanced bike skills, and we also need base camp volunteers who do not need to ride.

Adventure Race Team is a bit different from other race programs, and that is very intentional. First, we don’t do just one kind of racing. We participate in Mountain Bike, Cyclocross, Gravel, and Endurance events. We offer kids the opportunity to set their own challenges and goals, and we celebrate accomplishments not just race results. For some kids entering or finishing their first race is a huge accomplishment, especially when it comes to endurance events. For other kids their goal may be podiums. Whatever the goal of an individual Jr athlete on the race team is, we are going to help them rise to the challenge. Much like ABC, kids on the race team are learning things like resilience and self-reliance, becoming stronger and more confident, and being supported by a community of adult volunteers dedicated not just to their racing accomplishments but also their personal growth. Race team volunteers need to have a USA Cycling membership and pass a background check through USAC. Race team volunteers lead training rides and help with race day logistics.

In addition to our two programs Shenanigans also hosts two events per year, a mountain bike race that is part of Northern Ohio Mountain Bike Series in July, and Shenanigans Cyclefest that includes cyclocross racing in the fall. Both of these events need volunteers from both programs to pitch in and make them happen!

Both of our programs would not be possible without volunteers both on and off the bike. If you have a passion for working with kids and want to get involved please fill out our volunteer intake form FOUND HERE
